Florence Nightingale quote and pledge

The Nursing Creed

"I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly, to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully.

I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession, and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping, and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling.

With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in his work, and as a 'missioner of health' I will dedicate myself to devoted service to human welfare."

The Nightingale Pledge (1935 revision, emphasis ours)

While not every school uses the Nightingale Pledge in their pinning ceremonies today, it is a reminder of the high calling that nurses are answering.

  1. The call to hard work and excellence.
  2. The call to help both patients and other nurses.

That's what we call "Leveling Up"

How are you leveling up?

It starts with a commitment to excellence in nursing school. Every study session, lecture, video, clinical and practice test is one more step in your journey.

It's also helping out your fellow nurses-to-be. Every tip shared, every memory device that helps someone else get it and every study session that you plan for a group is also a start on a lifelong journey of helping others succeed.

Tell your #NursesLevelUp story.

Celebrate every step of your journey, and shout out those who are helping you with the hashtag #NursesLevelUp. Show your commitment, and invite your fellow nurses to join in with us!
